AI for MSPs

AI for MSPs: agents for the service desk, the NOC and the QBR.

AI for MSPs means using AI agents to triage tickets, resolve routine requests, sort NOC and SOC alerts, clean up time entries and prepare QBRs, working inside the PSA and RMM a managed service provider already runs. Ironbridge AI Advisory builds and operates these systems for MSPs for one flat monthly fee, so engineers spend their hours on escalations and projects and the margin on each endpoint holds as you add clients. IT firms that mainly resell and consult should see our page on AI for IT services firms and VARs.

The Iron Bridge's black ironwork over the river among trees

Why MSP margins get squeezed

Most managed services agreements are priced per user or per endpoint. Revenue is fixed, so every unplanned engineer hour comes out of margin.

Tier-one volume grows with every client

Password resets, access requests, printer and VPN problems arrive in proportion to seats. Hiring in step with them keeps margin flat at best.

Dispatch is a full-time job

Someone reads each ticket, guesses the type and priority, checks the agreement and assigns it. Mistakes here cause SLA misses later.

Alert noise from the RMM

Monitoring produces far more alerts than incidents. Engineers learn to ignore them, and the one that mattered is found late.

Time entries and notes are thin

Unlogged time is unbilled time on anything outside the agreement, and thin notes mean the next engineer starts from zero.

QBRs slip

Account managers and vCIOs know quarterly reviews keep clients, but assembling the data for each one takes an evening.

Documentation drifts

Runbooks and client documentation fall behind the environment, so fixes depend on whoever remembers.

Service desk: triage and first-line resolution

The fastest payback for most MSPs, because it touches every ticket.

Ticket triage and routing
An agent reads each inbound email, portal request and call summary, sets type, subtype, priority and SLA from the client's agreement, and assigns the right board and engineer before a human opens it.
First-line resolution
Password resets, license assignment, mailbox and group changes, and common printer and VPN issues handled against your runbooks, with approval steps where your policy requires them.
Engineer assist
On tickets a person owns, the agent attaches similar past tickets, the relevant documentation and suggested next steps, so the engineer starts with context.
After-hours line
A voice and chat agent answers outside business hours, gathers what on-call needs, resolves what it safely can and pages a person only for real emergencies.
Ticket notes and time entries
Drafts clear resolution notes and time entries from the work done, for the engineer to confirm, so billing and history are complete.
User onboarding and offboarding
Account creation, licensing, group membership, device requests and the offboarding checklist run as one workflow across the PSA, directory and security tools, with an audit trail.

NOC and SOC: fewer alerts, better context

Alert deduplication and correlation

Related alerts from the RMM and monitoring tools grouped into one ticket, with the likely cause noted.

Runbook-driven remediation

For known conditions, such as a stopped service or a full disk, the agent runs the approved script and records what it did.

Security alert enrichment

Alerts from EDR, email security and identity tools summarized with user, device and recent activity, so an analyst can decide quickly. The decision stays with the analyst.

Patch and backup exceptions

A daily list of failed patches and backups by client, with the tickets already opened and grouped.

Account management: QBRs and vCIO work

QBR builder

Ticket trends, SLA performance, asset age, patch and backup status and open risks pulled from the PSA and RMM into a draft review deck for each client.

vCIO roadmap and budget drafts

Hardware lifecycle, license counts and open recommendations turned into a draft technology roadmap and budget for the vCIO to edit.

Client health scoring

Ticket volume, sentiment in replies, overdue invoices and missed reviews combined into an early warning for accounts at risk.

Agreement and license reconciliation

Seats and devices under management compared with what each agreement bills, so under-billing is caught monthly.

Why MSPs work with Ironbridge

We have run managed services

Our founder, Jordan Solender, built and exited IT consulting and managed services businesses. We know PSA hygiene, SLA math and utilization, and that an automation that breaks billing is worthless.

We build into your stack

ConnectWise PSA, Autotask, HaloPSA, NinjaOne, Datto RMM, IT Glue, Hudu, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID. Agents work where your engineers already work, not in another portal.

Human handoff is the default

Every agent has a confidence threshold and an escalation path. Clients do not get stuck in a loop, and engineers keep final say on anything privileged.

One flat monthly fee

Building and managed operations for one monthly amount, month to month, with no hourly meter and no change orders.

How it starts

  1. 1

    Map service delivery

We review a sample of tickets, your boards, agreements and runbooks, and rank where engineer hours go.

  2. 2

    Start read-only

The first agent classifies and suggests without changing anything, so you can compare it with your dispatcher.

  3. 3

    Allow scoped actions

Once it agrees with your team, it gets a scoped service account and approved runbooks for specific request types.

  4. 4

    Expand by ticket category

We add request types, alert handling and QBR preparation in order of payback, with a monthly report on what was handled.

What we aim at

  • Lower first-response time on inbound tickets
  • Fewer tier-one tickets reaching senior engineers
  • More endpoints supported per engineer, which protects margin per endpoint
  • Complete time entries and resolution notes on every ticket
  • A QBR delivered to every client on schedule

Questions we get asked

How can an MSP use AI?

The most common uses are ticket triage and routing, first-line resolution of routine requests, alert correlation in the NOC, time entry and note drafting, QBR preparation and after-hours call handling. Most MSPs start with triage because it touches every ticket and can run read-only at first.

Can AI triage and resolve tickets in ConnectWise, Autotask or HaloPSA?

Yes. These PSAs expose tickets, companies, agreements and time through APIs, and we build agents directly on them. The agent sets type, priority and assignment, and for approved request types it carries out the fix and documents it in the ticket.

Will AI replace help desk engineers at an MSP?

No. The aim is to remove repetitive tier-one volume and admin so engineers spend their hours on escalations, projects and client relationships. Every agent escalates to a person when confidence is low or the request touches privileged systems.

Is it safe to let an AI agent make changes in client environments?

Only with tight controls: a scoped service account per function, approved runbooks, an approval step for privileged actions and a log of every change. Many MSPs begin with read-only work such as triage and reporting before allowing any changes.

Can AI build QBRs and vCIO reports?

Yes. An agent pulls ticket, asset, patch, backup and license data for each client and drafts the review and roadmap. The account manager or vCIO edits the narrative and recommendations before it goes to the client.

How does AI improve MSP margins?

Per-endpoint pricing fixes revenue, so margin depends on how many endpoints each engineer can support. Automating tier-one work, dispatch and reporting raises that number, and reconciliation catches seats and devices you support but do not bill.

What does AI for an MSP cost?

Ironbridge charges one flat monthly fee, month to month, covering building and managed operations of everything we ship. We scope it on a strategy call against your ticket volume, client count and tool stack.
